Raf Simons delivered a bona-fide hit with his 2011 Spring RTW collection. Buyers and bloggers couldn't get enough of his billowing shapes and acid bright color palette. He must have been feeling cocky about his success because he decided to do it all over again for Fall 2011.
Raf translated each of his looks from the spring runway into a fall wardrobe. The shapes stayed the same. The mood didn't change. It has been years a designer has been so bold to stand behind his vision to create back-to-back seasons based on the same concept.
Do you see yet, the importance of this collection?? Raf single handedly has put the brakes on trends.
You love spring look #34 but really can't pull it off in the middle of January?
Then fall look #14 is for you!
And the shoes....the shoes! He gave us ONE pair. One pair with the super power to morph with straight leg wool pants. The one pair we will need for winter. Or ever.
What Raf did yesterday is provide enough evidence fashion is an investment. It is not frivolous or frantic. He proved there is no reason something is out-of-fashion after a season is over. People with style know this already, but Raf made it concrete by walking that belief down the runway.
It is a bold statement but I do believe the Jil Sander 2011 Fall collection has the power to change the way women dress from this day forward. Slow it down. Take your time buying that one piece you absolutely love. Because now you can see, you can buy it one season and rock it every season anyway you damn well please.
Thank you, Raf.
